RFYO ENSEMBLES & REHEARSAL TIMES
Preparatory String Orchestra (PSO)
The Preparatory String Orchestra is the first level of string ensemble of the RFYO program. Students learn how to make music as an ensemble with each section playing independently. This is also designed to be the perfect next step for students graduating from the AMFS Beginning Strings program. Ages generally range from late elementary through middle school, but there are no limits of ages for each ensemble.
Glenwood Springs Elementary School (upstairs), Thursdays 4:15 PM -5:15 PM
Carbondale, Third Street Center, Tuesdays, 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM
Aspen Middle School, Thursdays, 4:15 PM -5:15 PM (needs higher enrollment to be offered this fall, please let us know if you are interested in the Aspen location for the PSO!)
The Camerata is the intermediate level ensemble of the RFYO program. Students play string orchestra repertoire and are at a level where they are learning to shift, play vibrato, and play more complex music. Students in this ensemble are mostly in middle and high school. Winds, brass, and percussion also play in the Camerata. Students enjoy hearing a full orchestral sound playing with nearly 30 other student musicians.
Carbondale, Third Street Center, Tuesdays, 5:25 PM - 6:35 PM
This year's Philharmonia is a low strings ensemble. Due to enrollment, lots of graduating students during the last two years, and the ability levels of student musicians it worked out best to make the Camerata our largest ensemble with winds, brass and percussion and allow the the Philharmonia to be a smaller group made up of the more advanced low string players. In future years the Philharmonia will be a full orchestra with strings, winds, brass, and percussion. The Philharmonia plays music from the orchestral repertoire including excerpts from or arrangements of major symphonic repertoire. Students in this ensemble are dedicated young musicians who have previous ensemble experience and regularly practice 45 minutes or more at least 4 days per week.
Carbondale, Third Street Center, Tuesdays, 6:45 PM -8:00 PM
The intermediate and advanced ensembles meet in one central location in the valley. This gives students the opportunity to play with a larger ensemble.
